the green gables FAQ – frequently asked questions

1. Who is behind the green gables?

Helen Allen-Burt is the owner of the green gables design studio and brand. You can find out more about her on the About page.

2. Where did the name the green gables come from?

The inspiration for the name ‘the green gables’ came from the great book ‘Anne of Green Gables’ by LM Montgomery. A fabulous book which is in part about an imaginative, creative and curious mind. This, coupled with a commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our products, made the green gables a perfect name to reflect the designs and ethos held close to the heart of the business.

3. What makes your products green?

Helen strives to reduce her impact on the planet at work and at home. Wherever possible sustainable materials are used in the production of the green gables products. She doesn’t think there is any reason to use virgin pulp (newly chopped down trees) for any paper products when really good quality recycled paper is available. All paper products are printed on recycled paper. Recycled tissue and parcel paper, recycled card envelopes and boxes, and compostable clear bags are used in packaging. If the packaging isn’t recycled it can certainly be reused, such as the bubble envelopes. Through the green gables products you are supporting sustainable practices and your item has been made with minimal environmental impact. You can find out more on the About page.
